Community Information Session - Next one at Clare Golf Club, 7pm on November 8th
• A new series of PIRSA information sessions have been planned for Echunga, Williamstown, Mc Laren Vale and Victor Harbor. Times, dates, locations to be made available on Monday.
• Media releases relating to fines applied for non-compliance with a movement permit, and one outlining different movement requirements for horses coming from different states has been posted on the noticeboard part of the Horse SA website.
• PIRSA is also working on documentation to help clubs with running activities under biosecurity conditions (supporting the talk given by Dr Rahaley yesterday). These are expected to be on the PIRSA website early to mid next week.
• 30 people yesterday attended a workshop conducted by Dr Rob Rahaley on EI updates, and how to apply biosecurity practices to your horse event, including considerations should a Stock Standstill Order be called. The presentation is on the Horse SA homepage
• Horse SA is also now liaising with the Department for Trade & Economic Development to run a series of workshops around contingency financial/operations planning for your business or not-for-profit organisation. If another stock standstill is called (which will occur, even if horses are vaccinated or the disease is called endemic) for how long could you stay viable? Participants will be taken through a quick step by step horse industry customized guide. It will be open to anyone associated with the horse industry in any area. PIRSA updates will also be available.
• Check out the link to the new website "Vote4horses" via the Horse SA homepage. Make your vote count this federal election!
• Two new websites also added to "links" section of Horse SA - Horse Owners of the Southern Mount Lofty Ranges and Trails Alliance of South Australia
Final call (Close off time 5pm Monday 5th November) for Senior First Aid Course held at Horse SA, Morphettville on Thurs. 8th/ Friday 9th. Great prices! Download your form from the Horse SA homepage.
• Six students are currently enrolled in the Horse SA Short Course for Trackwork Riders, being conducted by TAFE SA and funded through the City of Onkaparinga and SA Works Program. We wish them well.
• Horse SA is hosting, with Thoroughbred Racing SA Pty Ltd, a day for School Teachers who want to provide horse programs at School (racing or non-racing) info flyer on the homepage.
• Kidman Trail work is progressing along at high speed. Dolomite was placed under step-overs & in the horse yards at Echunga, in Mt Barker this week. A small bridge restored on Station Avenue, fencing and a depth marker at a ford near the Back Callington Road is being completed today. Members of the Kapunda Harness Racing Club are set to paint the Kidman overnight yards at the complex. A public consultation advert will appear in the Barossa Leader soon regarding use of the "Old Pound" at Rams Head (near Keyneton) as a trailhead, and an advert for a proposed Road Opening Order for a small section off Hender Road, Mt Barker. Contractors will soon be appointed to develop a Marketing & Business Plan over the next few weeks, along with another contract to produce all the signage for the remaining trailheads and suite of 4 brochures with maps. All is on track to have the corridor open & maps available by Christmas.
• The final phases of the HorsesLandWater project are being completed, mainly documentation relating to reports. There will be a launch early December, more details later.
• Visitors to Brownhill Creek should see a flurry of work on the shared use trail on the left hand side as you drive in. Organised by Horse SA, this work has been funded by the Community Water Grants Program, the Department for Environment & Heritage, Friends of Brownhill Creek. Thank you to the Friends group for sponsoring $1000 worth of trees to go alongside the route.
